BandLab Technologies and Universal Music Group (UMG) have partnered to support moral AI applications and protect songwriters' and artists' rights. This collaboration emphasizes how crucial it is to use AI in the music business responsibly, especially when it comes to upholding the rights of creators.
UMG's Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer, Michael Nash, stressed the importance of upholding artists' rights and the expanding role of AI in the music industry. He reaffirmed their dedication to fostering human ingenuity and culture via ethical application of AI.
This program is in line with UMG's earlier AI-related initiatives. Previous conversations with Google centered on countermeasures against AI deepfake, such as a tool to produce music with artist likenesses produced by AI that complies with legal restrictions.
YouTube, a significant player in the music business, has also held discussions with UMG about AI in an effort to develop guiding principles. The ongoing discussion about copyright issues is reflected in these efforts, as evidenced by the August 2023 denial of copyright for AI art by a U.S. judge.
