- Future Phases of Collaboration
OpenZeppelin and Interop Labs have announced a strategic collaboration to develop open-source standards and development resources for cross-chain communication. This initiative aims to enhance interoperability across the rapidly expanding Ethereum L2 landscape and broader Axelar-connected chains.
Context of Collaboration
The rapid development of new solutions for the Ethereum ecosystem has led to a fragmented landscape of isolated Layer-2 (L2) chains. While connecting to the Ethereum mainnet is straightforward, linking various L2s requires individual development, creating barriers to asset and data flow, as well as reducing developer efficiency and user experience.
Role of OpenZeppelin and Contract Libraries
As part of OpenZeppelin's Contract Libraries, this new Solidity-based solution will provide developers with the necessary tools to build interconnected applications. OpenZeppelin Contracts, which have secured over $6 trillion in total value transferred, will be integrated with Axelar, simplifying the implementation of cross-chain functionality and promoting the growth of the Ethereum ecosystem.
Future Phases of Collaboration
Future phases of this collaboration will include additional libraries and Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). Axelar currently connects the Cosmos and Ethereum Virtual Machine ecosystems, with other consensus approaches such as Solana, Stellar, and Sui expected later this year. This collaboration will provide developers with a standardized and secure framework for innovation and better interaction within a multichain system.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards addressing interoperability challenges, providing a standardized and secure framework for developers to innovate and create better solutions for a seamless multichain experience.
