Sky, formerly known as Maker, is contemplating another rebranding. The community is discussing returning to the original Maker brand following feedback on recent changes and the USDS launch.
Brand Change History
Sky, previously known as Maker, underwent a rebranding two months ago, marked by the introduction of the USDS stablecoin, which replaced DAI. The USDS supply reached one billion shortly after its launch, and it was integrated on platforms like Aave, Morpho, and Ethena.
Potential Reversion to Maker
Rune Christensen, co-founder of Maker, has suggested a return to the Maker brand name. The proposal comes just eight weeks after introducing Sky. Christensen outlined three potential paths: continue with Sky, revert to Maker with MKR as the sole governance token, or strike a compromise by refreshing the Maker identity.
Community Feedback
A community call to discuss the proposal will be held on October 25, with voting commencing on November 4. Community members have different opinions: web3 developer Anon Builder questions the move away from MakerDAO, while community figure Mason criticizes the renaming of DAI to USDS, seeing it as a move that makes it harder to stand out in a crowded market.
Amid discussions and community feedback, an important decision will determine the future direction of Sky's branding and its products. The transition from Maker to Sky came with numerous changes, and now the community must decide if a return to its roots is warranted.
